Doula Services

I'm excited to be able to offer Doula Services in Grays Harbor which are covered by Medicaid (also known as Apple Health or State Insurance). This will allow more Grays Harbor residents to access this helpful service. I also have reasonable rates for those who don't have Medicaid and who are interested in paying out of pocket.

What does a Doula do?

Information & Planning

A doula can help by providing information about pregnancy, birth and pain management options. A doula can also help you create a plan for your birth and assist with and logistical questions you might have.

Emotional & Physical Support

The doula is with you throughout your birth starting at home and moving to the hospital when the time comes. Having a doula helps reduce unnecessary interventions can result in a more positive experience of birth.

Advocacy

While I will not speak for you, a doula will work with you ahead of time to clarify decisions you are making about your birth and help you have the confidence to speak for yoursel

Postpartum Support

Birth is a life-changing event but the changes don't stop there! The transition to parenthood is also huge and a doula can continue to be a valuable resource for physical and emotional support for up to a year after the birth of your baby.

What does a Doula NOT do?

As a doula my role is strictly supportive. While I can provide information and help translate some of the medical jargon you may encounter, I can not speak for you or make medical decisions. Doulas are not medical providers and I do require that you be under the care of a medical provider in order to be your Doula. This is especially important because I am also a Licensed Midwife and there are legal ramifications because of that status.
